Doomsday Okra Seeds

This is our Doomsday Okra section. It gives instructions on how many okra plants are needed to feed one person for a year.

There are about 30 calories in one cup of okra. On a 1200 calorie diet that is 40 cups of okra per day. About five pods of okra will make one cup. One okra plant will produce about 20 pods of okra. You would need 1460 plants. Let's say about 2000 plants per year. You will need about 3000 square feet of space to grow okra for one person for one year. So let's hope you have plenty of other foods to eat because 40 cups of okra to eat each day is a whole lot!

Okra can be dried, frozen and canned. It will last about 24 hours without refrigeration. Plant so it does not mature all at once. Okra does not like cold weather but it loves and thrives in the heat.

You will need proper storing equipment on hand to process the okra.
