This is the Firecracker pepper plant. This is the Firecracker pepper plant.

Good morning. Time for another hot day in Texas. In just three weeks, it will be time to start planting your fall garden. Can you believe that?

Last night, I blocked off under the backyard stairs so the dogs would not escape in the night because they usually have to go out around 4am. David tells me that he let them out to go a little after 4am and somehow, they all got out and went over to their normal side. I have no clue how they did it. Even Trump got in on the action this time. He got them all back in so we need to fix their side. We were hoping to wait until the other sheds were moved out but the silly dogs will not cooperate.

Time to get ready for another busy day at David's Garden Seeds®.

This morning, Matt unclogged the waterfall on the pond and he put up new temporary fencing for the dogs back over in their section of yard.

I came out at 9am and found a vehicle just leaving. I stopped him and he said he was an Amazon delivery driver. He brought me a box of new tops. Yay! There were three. I have some new capris coming soon as well.

The day was a long one. Two different women came in who had just moved to the area. One bought seeds. The other one wanted to know what kind of trees were growing on her property. Sorry, can't help you with that one. She said she would be back when it was time for the fall garden. Well, that would be in the next three to four weeks.

No news on moving the green shed. It would be nice to get it done now while the yard is already torn up than to wait until it starts looking normal again.

It got really cloudy twice today and I expected rain but not one drop fell either time.

Good morning. It is 7:30am already. I cannot believe it is time to go to work. I am so tired. I woke up one time in the night with neuropathy in my left foot. That was fun.

The day was a long and busy one. I don't believe we had any visitors today except for the usual delivery men. I worked on orders all day long.

This morning, David left around 6:45am to get his hair done. Matt was first this morning. His appointment was at 7am, followed by David. David gets the works when he sits in the chair.

Then, I had a 10am appointment to get my hair done. I think it looks really good. Matt told me it looks good. David hates it. Oh well.

We had one in person customer who bought four of our fall garden seed sets as well as one spring seed set. They are going fast.

This afternoon, Mr. Trump had his yearly vet visit complete with shots and tests and all kinds of fun! They kept us in the waiting room for quite a while so Trump got excited seeing all of these dogs coming and going. He barks very loudly at them all and wants to go see them. He was the loudest in the building. When we finally got into the exam room, the vet had two people restraining him on the table. Trump did not like that at all. Poor baby.

When it was finally all over, the Trumpster is fine and all set to go. My wallet? That is another store.

Thank God that Pamela and Sue Ellen don't go in for theirs until January!

It is Gordon Ramsay night so we are closing up early.

Good morning. It is already time to start the day. Nacho is supposed to come out and do more things that need to be done, although I do not know what those things are.

I have fresh eggs in the refrigerator after selling out on Saturday so come on by and pick some up.

The day was spent pulling and filling orders.

Nacho and two helpers came out to do some things for three hours.

I believe school has started around here already, at least in some of the towns. It is just too hot for that nonsense this early. Everyone ought to do like back East. You start school the day after Labor Day and you get out in the middle of June. Then you have half of June, all of July and all of August for summer break. My family always took vacation the last two weeks of August. Those weeks aligned with church family camp which was a big deal. Here, we would never get to go.

Friday, August 8, 2025

It is very humid and promises to be a miserable day. The high will be 102°.

It was a very busy day with filling orders and pulling a bunch of them.

We are supposed to harvest our first honey in the morning. We have been getting equipment and tools prepared, unwrapped, and washed. David's and Matt's bee suits are hanging in the commercial kitchen but mine was moved long ago. I looked around and finally found it all wadded up in one of the seed shacks. I have never worn mine before so it is brand new but it was covered with a bunch of dead moths--so disgusting. I put it in the washing machine. However, the head piece had to be washed by hand. That was a gross job.

I am excited to get the waxed frames out. I am also a bit scared to go around the bees. Once that part is over, I think I will enjoy cutting the wax and spinning the honey out of the comb. I have been watching a lot of beekeepers on YouTube and it looks like fun.

I wonder how many will be in our audience tomorrow morning. David has invited a lot of people. I don't want any here. This is something we have never done so why would I want an audience?

Saturday, August 9, 2025

Well, there were two folks that have been customers here. The man helped. David filmed. I sweated...a lot. It was supposed to be at 8am but they all did not get out to the bees until almost 8:30am. I was the only one out there, suited up and burning up.

The first hive was a bust, filled with wax moths and very few bees.

Once the second hive was opened, the bees got riled up really quickly. They were going all over the place. I was right there and did not get stung. Neither did anyone else. The second hive had only three frames ready to pull.

The third hive was a bust filled with mites.

The fourth hive is doing well but it and the third hive were just started in May or June when we split the hives. I did not have my suit on that day so I did not get close but I was told that hive one and two were doing great, were mite free, and filled with honey. That is not at all what we found today. It was such a disappointment.

Now we have to clean up two hives and I don't even know how to do that. I have no idea what happened. We will be getting the books out and figuring it all out. Then we will probably move the hives up front and put them in the shade since they are in open sun right now.

It is now 2:12pm. We had three seed customers today. The last one snuck in at 1:58pm and the gate shut right after. He purchased the largest order and then I had to let him out.

Matt left about 30 minutes ago but he has been here since before 7am and he brought us breakfast.

I found three bees inside with the three frames. One was still alive so we got her outside and after she cleaned up a bit, she flew off.

I need to go home, clean the house, and come up with something good for dinner tonight.

We have some more books on bees coming and we need to study and see what we should change. We are talking about moving the hives to a place in the shade.
