Doomsday Radish Seeds

This page talks about how to buy Doomsday Radish Seeds from David's Garden Seeds®. You would need over 200,000 radishes a year to survive. The good thing about radishes is they are ready to eat in about 30 days. Radishes will not last long without some sort of refrigeration. So pick what you need and let the rest keep growing. Plant at different times so the harvest is not ready all at once. Radishes like cool weather. The black radish may make a scavenger think there is something wrong with the radish. 

This is our Doomsday Radish page. It gives instructions on how many radish plants are needed to feed one person for a year.

One cup of radishes is about 20 calories. On a 1200 calorie diet it would take about 60 cups of radishes to survive. It would take about ten radishes to make one cup. This would be 600 radishes a day or 219,000 radishes a year.

It would probably not be feasible to plant radishes to survive on. But they can be grown almost year round where the ground does not freeze and are usually ready in about 25 to 30 days. 

You cannot can radishes. You can slice them up to dry, but they probably would not taste very good. The best way to eat radishes is fresh. Once pulled from the ground you have about 24 hours to eat before they start to get soft.
