This page gives information on Doomsday Jalapeno Pepper seeds from David's Garden Seeds®.
Jalapeno peppers will add some spice to your life which is what you will need in a doomsday scenario. They can be dried and used at a later date. You can also make a pepper spray for defense or insect repellent.
This is our Doomsday Jalapeno Pepper Seeds section. It tells how many jalapeno pepper seeds one would need on hand in an emergency situation.
The jalapeno is a medium-sized chili pepper pod type cultivar of the species Capsicum annuum. A mature jalapeño fruit is 5 to 10 cm long and hangs down with a round, firm, smooth flesh of 25 to 38 mm wide. It can have a range of pungency, with Scoville heat units of 3,500 to 8,000.
Jalapenos are a type of mild to low heat pepper. They are basically the same size and usually harvested green. Sometimes they are allowed to turn red but not often.
Jalapenos can be canned, increasing their storage time for one to two years. They can also be pickled. There are many recipes online for this.
One cup of jalapenos is about 26 calories. On a 1200 calorie diet, one would need to eat 46 cups a day. It is quite impossible to eat this many jalapenos a day. It would make you sick.
The best way to use jalapenos is as a spice for your other foods. They have some nutritional value but not a whole lot.
One plant will put out 25 to 35 jalapeno pods per season. In the second and third years you may get up to 40 to 50 pods per plant.
In order to add some spice and eat some fresh, you should only need about 20 to 30 plants.
